TIGER NOT THE HARE 老虎與野兔
Set inside a dark boxing gym, this indie video stars talented dancer and choreographer Lilian Steiner, and plays out the story of two figure of the Chinese horoscope, the Tiger and the Hare. The song focusses on female empowerment, “about not apologising for letting your inner-tiger surface for all to see”. Musically, ‘Tiger Not the Hare’ was inspired by one of my favourite classical composer, Bela Bartok,” Koh tells Music Feeds. “He wrote in a quirky but accessible rhythm, true to his Hungarian folk roots. My challenge was to see how I can integrate that into a modern pop song.” Song produced by J.Walker.

I UNDERSTAND
Teaming up with directorial duo The Apiary (Lily Coates and Gavin Youngs), Koh was literally put through the ringer physically, strapped to a purpose built gimbal (rotating machine) for 10 hours, for the highly stylised video.
“The idea was to do away with the various veils of costume, location and action to concentrate all the attention on Sophie and her song, using the gravity to evoke the emotional journey.” explains Coates.
